the pale antelope nearly glows in the dark of night amongst the fronds, and its regularly patterned counterpart rises in the morning from the lush forest around it. which colorway do you prefer?

these are both blackbucks, also known as indian antelopes or krishnasar, and they are a very pretty antelope found in india, nepal, and pakistan. the males of the species exhibit this natural stark black and white pelt, with these really wonderful curved horns—though they can (very rarely) be all white as i’ve drawn here. once hunted (though deforestation and habitat removal have harmed them as well) to near extinction in much of its range, they are a story of local conservation stepping in and protecting these important animals. these antelope are now considered “near threatened”, which is quite a step up from endangered. there is much more to their story and i’d suggest looking them up to learn more since the word count here will not do them justice
